Tom Ruane Park & Playground
Overlooking the beautiful River Moy the park & playground has recently been upgraded to ensure accessibility for children of all ages and abilities, the park is now one of the most inclusive outdoor play facilities in Ireland. Recently FLOW (A community projected dedicated to creating a more inclusive community for people with disabilities in Ballina and Mayo) & Ballina Community Clean Up (An community organistation made up of volunteers who are dedicated to Biodiversity projects and enhancing Ballina & North Mayo) have teamed up with the support of Mayo County Council to fundraise for a sensory garden to be added to Tom Ruane Park. To date they have raised €47,000 for this wonderful addition which would be of great benefit for autistic adults and children.
The play equipment and surrounding area is constructed mostly from sustainable wood and bark mulch making it very child friendly. It has an endless amount of entertainment for children with it’s many types of play equipment, we are certain the only issue you may have is getting the kids to leave again.
There is a huge double slide, swings, bucket swings, a wooden beam, monkey bars, a roundabout, zip line, seesaw and a climbing structure. There are also two tennis courts, basketball courts, table tennis tables, a cycle lane and an all-weather football pitch.
Not to forget the large green area and a number of picnic benches dotted throughout the park which make for perfect lookouts for some duck spotting.
Located within walking distance of the 4 star Ballina Manor Hotel, the Tom Ruane Park is a brilliant way to spend any afternoon with the family for free.
