Michael Davitt Museum & Straide Friary
The Michael Davitt Museum encapsulates Davitt’s diverse array of national and international accomplishments, weaving a compelling narrative of resilience in the face of adversity. Situated within the beautifully restored pre-penal church where Davitt received his baptism, the museum stands adjacent to the historic 13th-century Straide Friary. A guided tour and an audio visual presentation offers a glimpse into the Dominican Friary, a remarkable Norman structure housing some of Ireland’s finest medieval sculptures. Marvel at the Gothic architecture and delve into the intricately adorned 15th-century Pieta and Tomb. Pay homage to the final resting place of a 19th-century female social reformer, and captivated by stories of death, destruction, despair and hope.
All visitors to the Michael Davitt Museum receive a free pass to the Céide Fields Visitor Centre in North Mayo and a 10% Discount Card which can be used either in the Shop or Restaurant/Café in the nearby Foxford Woollen Mills.
