Downpatrick Head, Co. Mayo
Embrace the stunning views of the incredible sea stack, sea cliffs and wild rugged Stags of Broadhaven. Experience the breathtaking Dún Briste, Poll na Scantoine (blowhole) and ruins of a historic church along the wild cliff walk. Legend has it, St. Patrick himself built a church on the grounds and a stone marker is present today where it supposedly once stood. The area also has connections with World War II, an aerial marker ‘ÉIRE 64’ is visible and showed Ireland’s neutrality in the war.
Although there are safety barriers surrounding the blowholes, the cliff walk does not have safety barriers along the way and children are to be supervised at all times and not left unattended.
A visit to Downpatrick Head is highly recommended to create some fantastic family memories and is only a short 30 minute drive from Ballina Manor Hotel.
Why not take a tour of Céide Fields while you’re there, only a short 5 minute drive, the visitor centre is well worth a visit.
